Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 29, 2026 (draft)
HomeRecap is operated by Tulip Street Ventures LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“we”, “us”). HomeRecap turns activity recorded by the Ring cameras you authorize into a short daily recap. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. HomeRecap is an independent service and is not made or endorsed by Ring or Amazon.
The short version
- We only access the Ring cameras you choose to authorize in the Ring app.
- Camera images are analyzed in memory and are never saved by HomeRecap.
- Areas you mark as privacy zones in Ring are blacked out before any image is analyzed.
- We never use facial recognition, identify people, or read license plates.
- Recaps and event details are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Information we collect
Account information. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code and, if you opt in, to send your daily recap. When you connect through Ring, we may receive your Ring account email from Ring to create or confirm your account.
Ring connection. Access and refresh tokens issued by Ring and your Ring account identifier, stored encrypted (AES-256). We use them only to call Ring on your behalf.
Camera and event information. For the cameras you authorize: camera names you set in Ring, device type and status, a coarse location (country and state or province only, never your address), and event details such as the type of event (for example motion or a doorbell press) and when it happened. We also read your Ring privacy-zone settings each time we analyze images so those areas can be masked; we do not store them.
Camera images. To describe an event, we request a small number of still images from Ring for that event. Images are processed in memory, masked, sent for analysis, and then discarded. HomeRecap does not store images, video or audio.
Recaps and analysis results. Short written descriptions of each event (for example “A person walks up the driveway to the front door”), the daily recap built from them, and the recap’s timing.
Settings and email preferences. Your time zone, delivery time, selected cameras, and whether and when you opted in to recap emails, plus delivery status (for example, delivered or bounced).
Technical and security information. Session cookies needed to keep you signed in, and security records used to prevent abuse (such as rate limiting of sign-in codes), which store only one-way hashes of your email and IP address. Our hosting providers keep standard server logs. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
How we use information
- To connect to your Ring account and read events from the cameras you authorize.
- To analyze event images and write your daily recap.
- To show your recaps in the app and, if you opt in, email them to you.
- To check your HomeRecap subscription status with Ring.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and measure our costs.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.
How AI is used
Masked event images are analyzed by OpenAI, acting as our service provider, to produce a short written description of each event. We instruct the model to describe only visible activity and not to identify people, recognize faces, estimate age, gender, race or other personal traits, read text or license plates, or speculate about intent, and we automatically reject descriptions that do. Under OpenAI’s API policies, data sent through its API is not used to train its models, and OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse before deleting them. AI descriptions can be incomplete or wrong. Each recap is based on a few sampled images, not the full video.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run HomeRecap, under contracts that limit how they may use it:
- Ring (Amazon): to authorize access, read camera events and images, and confirm your subscription.
- OpenAI: to analyze masked event images and generate descriptions.
- Supabase: database and sign-in hosting.
- Vercel: application hosting.
- Resend: sending recap and sign-in emails, if you opt in to recap emails.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, subject to this policy. We do not sell or rent personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep information
- Recaps, event details and analysis results: automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Camera images: not stored; discarded immediately after analysis.
- Ring access tokens: until you disconnect HomeRecap in Ring or delete your account.
- Account, settings and email-consent records: until you delete your account.
- Email delivery receipts: generally 7 days.
Your choices and rights
- Choose cameras or pause recaps at any time in Settings.
- Stop recap emails at any time in Settings.
- Disconnect Ring by removing HomeRecap from your Ring account; we then delete our copy of your Ring tokens.
- Delete your account in Settings. We then delete your account, Ring connection, recaps and related records. This does not delete recordings stored by Ring or emails already delivered to you, and it does not cancel a subscription purchased through the Ring Appstore; manage that in Ring.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, email support@gethomerecap.com. We will verify your request using your account email.
Security
We encrypt Ring credentials, use access controls that keep each customer’s data separate, use encrypted connections, and minimize what we keep. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us.
People who appear in camera images
Your cameras may capture other people, including visitors, neighbors, passers-by and children. HomeRecap does not identify anyone and describes people only in general terms such as “a person”. You are responsible for using your cameras in line with applicable laws, including any notice or consent requirements for recording others.
Children
HomeRecap is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children as users of the service.
Where we operate
HomeRecap is offered in the United States, and information is processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
